We The People: The Citizen and the Constitution
We The People: The Citizen and the Constitution promotes civic knowledge and engagement among upper elementary and secondary students. Utilizing innovative materials developed by the Center for Civic Education, an entire class works in cooperative teams to prepare and present statements on six units before a panel of judges acting as a congressional committee at the state level We The People competition. During the simulated hearings, students are judged on the following criteria: understanding, constitutional application, reasoning, supporting evidence, responsiveness, and participation. The Connecticut Democracy Center sponsors the Connecticut affiliate of We The People.

We need you to judge at the state competition of We The People!
Judges assess the students’ testimony and probe their knowledge during the question and answer period of the State Competition. The winning class advances to the We The People National Finals in Washington, D.C. in April.
If you have knowledge of the U.S. Constitution and a passion for intellectual inquiry, please consider volunteering as a Judge.
Before the competition, Judges should familiarize themselves with the We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution text and have an understanding of the unit(s) they will be judging as well as the related hearing questions.
Please consider joining us next year as a judge for We The People!
